Winton Round 3 Preview

The Shannons Nationals heads to Winton Motor Raceway for the third round of the 2017 season, featuring some of Australia’s best national series on-track this weekend.

It’s the first time for the year the Nationals heads to the country Victorian circuit, and also the first time rain is not on the radar.

This weekend Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Australia joins the Nationals agenda for their third round of the season, which will coincide with their first Jim Richards Endurance Trophy race for the season.

The battles are also starting to heat up in the series, with young-gun Jordan Love leading the way from his fellow F4 graduate Brenton Grove. Sam Shahin although is keeping them on their toes, as he heads into this round third in the outright standings.

Australian GT Trophy Series rejoins us for their second round of the season, with the exotic cars boasting an 18-car field this weekend.

A pole position and a race win at the season opener in Sandown sees Steve McLaughlan hold a four-point advantage in the standings over Rod Salmon, while reigning series winner Rob Smith is just eight points behind in fourth.

Back for the first time this season on the Shannons Nationals schedule is the Australian Production Car Series, who head into their second round of the season.

After a successful Bathurst 6 Hour campaign, Supercars star Chaz Mostert rejoins the Production Cars field with his friend Nathan Morcom, where they drove the Ford RS Focus to second on the podium. Iain and Grant Sherrin will also be a pair to look out for this weekend, in their striking-new BMW M4 they debuted at the season opener.

This weekend will also be the first round of the Australian Production Car Trophy, which sees cars that comply with CAMS 3E technical regulations entered for the first time in the series.

The Australian Prototype Series also returns for their second round this weekend, as the nimble Wests and Radical sports cars face head on at the Winton circuit.

After taking out the round win at Sandown, Philip Hughes will be one to watch out for as the series battles continue.

The Shannons Nationals third round begins tomorrow with practice, as competitors prepare for the weekend to come.
