The Radical Australia Cup has announced it will take place across six rounds in 2021 with the famous Mount Panorama to host the season opener.
With this year’s campaign seeing just one round able to be completed, competitors are expected to enjoy a busy schedule across five circuits and three states next year, despite just three rounds being confirmed thus far.
Having hosted the first round of the Radical Australia Cup season between 2014 and 2019’s Bathurst 12 Hour, the iconic Bathurst circuit will again host the Radicals as part of the 2021 Bathurst 6 Hour.
The other rounds already locked in include the Shannons Motorsport Australia Championships at Sydney Motorsport Park in May and in October for the Championships’ round at The Bend Motorsport Park in South Australia.
While the dates of the three remaining rounds are yet to be confirmed, the series will likely run a round at Wakefield Park in June, Sandown Raceway in September and Sydney Motorsport Park for the second time.
After what proved a difficult year for the Radical Australia Cup, category rights holder Chris Medland was pleased to be able to announce a skeleton calendar and have something to look forward to next year.
“We looked at a range of options to keep the season going, but it was untenable in the end, and with safety paramount, we had no choice other than to switch our focus to 2021,” Medland explained.
“Karl Reindler (Radical Australia Cup Motorsport Series Manager) has been in constant contact with Motorsport Australia and the various circuits since March, looking for any option we could find to continue our 2020 season, but as soon as it was clear that wasn’t possible, we started discussions about 2021.
“Despite the ongoing presence of the virus, and the late Supercar calendar announcement, we have the foundations of a strong calendar next year.
“With a growing number of competitors from Victoria, we’re keen to compete down there, however we can’t confirm final details of a date just yet, but we are working closely with Motorsport Australia.
“We will continue to push for the best calendar we can establish to suit our customer base, and make an announcement soon with respect to the final dates, but we’re excited about what is a very solid program – which might not be the perfect fit in an ideal world, but for season 2021 it is very much about consolidation after what has been a challenging year.”
The Hi-Tec Oils Bathurst 6 Hour will take place on 2–4 April, 2021.
