Hazelwood joins production car field

Fresh from his Supercars Championship debut last weekend, Todd Hazelwood will return to the Ipswich circuit to race with Scott Turner in the Australian Production Car Series.

Hazelwood and Turner will share a BMW 130i this weekend and are both looking forward to returning to the series, after winning Class C at the Bathurst 6 Hour.

“I am really looking forward to this weekend, sharing the drive with my good mate Scott,” Hazelwood said.

“The little BMW is a great fun car to rip around in and hopefully we can replicate the success we had a Bathurst at Queensland Raceway this weekend.”

The 21-year-old was also excited about racing under lights for the first time in circuit racing.

“I love night racing… it’s a great spectacle for the fans but also a very cool aspect for the drivers,” Hazelwood added.

“I haven’t raced at night since I was in go karts so I’m looking forward to it.”

With his Supercars debut at the same venue only a week prior fresh in his mind, it is unlikely any other driver in the field has done as many laps at Queensland Raceway in the last few weeks as Hazelwood – he also tested at the circuit the week prior to the Supercars event.

“I think I could do the practice laps in my sleep this weekend. I have done so many laps around Queensland Raceway in the last two weeks, it’s been crazy. I am definitely feeling well-prepared for the weekend,” Hazelwood said.

“I would like to think we can challenge for a class victory. Scott has been testing recently, getting back into the groove, and with our combination hopefully we can have a great weekend of racing.”

Hazelwood and Turner’s entry will be part of a 25-car field in the Australian Production Car Series, as part of Round 5 of the Shannons Nationals on 4-6 August.
