Television personality Grant Denyer has praised the Australian Production Car Series, as he embarks on his return to the series at Queensland Raceway.
Fresh from winning the Gold Logie, Denyer will race alongside Supercars co-driver Tony D’Alberto in both of the 300-kilometre races this weekend.
Denyer said that the series is ‘old school cool’ and cannot wait to mix it up with the other classes and cars later today.
“I love how many cars are here and I love how many different cars and makes there are … it is like a really fun playground to be in as a race driver,” Denyer said.
“There are all different classes and speeds … cars have different strengths at different parts of the track.
“It is really good track time too, like an amazing amount of track time.
“For bang for buck, you can’t really beat it … it is cool!”
Denyer and D’Alberto will race in Class A1 aboard a Lotus Exige, making their 2018 series race debut after a crash in practice at Sandown put them out of the season opener.
“The Simply Sports Cars guys have put together a ripper Lotus for us, rebuilding it for us following our unfortunate incident accident in practice at the first round,” Denyer added.
“These are a great bunch of guys, it is a good car and a good team.
“Hopefully we can claw back some points in the championship, although we didn’t make it through the first round.”
Thirty-seven cars have entered the Australian Production Car Series second round this weekend, with Denyer eager to race in the ‘Fight in the Night’ race later today.
“It should be good, I did the opening stint at the Bathurst 12 Hour this year, so I did a bit of night stuff there,” Denyer added.
“It will be fun—with so many cars it will be hectic—but awesome.
“I don’t know how bright our headlights are—I might strap a torch to my head with race tape … I am up for a bit of experimenting.
“I think [the Fight in the Night] is a great little twist on what is already a cool series.”
The Australian Production Car Series will have two qualifying sessions before the 300-kilometre night race beginning later this afternoon.
